WIP Wednesday: Through The Portal

Hey! It’s still Wednesday! Time for my link up to the Yarn Along. Here is what I’m knitting and reading, and dare I admit that I was doing both at the same? When you can’t put down your knitting, and you really can’t put down your book (or tablet, in my case), doing both is the only option. 😉

The Book

I mentioned before Advent that I had I was starting a new book by a brand new author called Portals of Water and Wine. I only read the first chapter and then paused for Advent. Well, I restarted it last night from the beginning, and I’m hooked! I love it! It’s the kind of book where I find myself coming up for air and realize hours have passed. In fact, I liked it so much that I drained the battery on my tablet and had to continue on my phone. 🙂 Portals is in the fantasy genre, so it may not be everyone’s cup of tea. However, if if you like that sort of story and would like to support a new author, check it out.

The Needles

I’m making good progress on my Beyond Puerperium cardigan. I’m trying to have it done by Saturday so I can get it mailed. I decided to borrow from another of the designer’s patterns (TAMA) and joined the cardigan in the round after dividing for the sleeves.

And now it is Thursday…well, by 30 minutes.

Have a great rest of your Thursday!

FO Friday: A Bit Of Catching Up To Do

I was busy during my Advent/Christmas hiatus. Before I get to that, though, I want to pretend it’s WIP Wednesday and post part of what I was going to post then. For some reason, my tablet (I’m computerless) would not load the draft page, and I was unable unable to post or link up to the Yarn Along. No matter. I shall do that now.

So, here’s what I’m knitting and reading:

The Book: I was still reading The Slow Regard of Silent Things by Patrick Rothfuss. In fact, I finished it last night at work. Auri is a fascinating character. Enigmatic and sweet. Broken and wise…of what and by what I still do not understand, even after spending 159 pages seeing through her eyes. I may need to dive deeper into her beloved world for a second time.

The Needles: I’m knitting my second Beyond Puerperium cardigan in two months. I love this pattern. The buttons along the raglan increase line are a fun and lovely detail. The recipient of this cardigan hasn’t made his or her grand entrance yet, thus the green yarn. I suppose I could have picked a different color, but I already had this one in my stash. I’m not sure, but I think I want to do shell or wooden buttons.

Okay, on to the finished things!

I alluded to having knit a first Beyond Puerperium cardigan, and indeed I did. A friend of mine had a baby boy in December, and I knit him this cardigan.

My friend lives in SoCal, so I made this one short sleeved. I finished it in early January, just in time to deliver it in person.  🙂

Of course, I had to knit a blanket, too. I turned to my favorite blanket pattern and knocked out this pinwheel blanket. I knit it on the plane and all the way through the Hobbit, but I got it done. The color is more accurate in the second photo.
