WIP Wednesday: Of Poets and Time Travel

Greetings from yesterday!

Given that yesterday was “Back To The Future Day,” I decided I could go back to yesterday to do my WIP Wednesday post. I was barely home yesterday, and was sleeping, actually or mentally, when I was. So today we’ll go back in time.

I finished Section 3 of my Spice Of Life blanket. Section 6 (the final one) was released Tuesday, so I am significantly behind the main pack. I just started on Section 4, but I’ve only got one row done. The final few rows of my Section 3 are Cornflower, White, Soft Blue, and Amethyst.

The Book

The other night at work, it suddenly dawned on me that audio books might be a good idea for those long nights. So, I checked out Audible. I don’t know why I’ve never done that! It’s amazing! I signed up for a monthly plan and started my first book.

Yes, that’s John Lithgow, and, no, he didn’t write the poetry. This book is an introduction to his favorite poets and some of their work. It’s fascinating! Mr. Lithgow provides a brief biography of each poet before a celebrity guest reads one of their poems. After the poem, Mr. Lithgow provides his thoughts on it, how it influenced him, and a few more titles by that poet. The poets are presented alphabetically by last name. I just finished Chapter 6, William Blake.

I chose this book to start with because I have realized my general lack of knowledge regarding poems and poets that my peers seem to know. I also find poetry difficult to read at times (though not to write, but that is another post). I figured that listening to it might make it more accessible to my extremely auditory brain. So far, this book has spurred interest in further readings by Elizabeth Bishop and William Blake.

As you can see from the photo, I have finished one of the hats for my coworkers and very nearly finished one of the Milos. Actually, I finished the Milo at the salon shortly after this photo was taken.

I’m going to finish the knitting on Super Secret Project before casting on for the next Milo.

I hope you are having a great Thursday. I shall hop back in my DeLorean and rejoin you shortly. I’ll also link up to the Yarn Along.

See you there.

WIP Wednesday: A Square, A Wizard, and A Milo

Writer’s block.

Here’s my weekly update.

The Hook

I got another square done on Magnum Opus. That makes 32 squares, and of those, only 10 have their ends woven in. At this rate, I should have all the squares done by next October. 😛

Currently, my afghan measures about 40 x 48 inches and is only â…“ of the way finished.

I think I aughta pick up the pace. 😉

The Book

I’m still hanging out with Harry during his first year at Hogwarts. Ordinarily a book this short would not take me more than a day or two, but I’ve been pretty busy.

First Years at Hogwarts may bring a cat or an owl or a toad. I always thought I’d choose the owl being such useful creatures. Now, I’d take a cat any day.

The Needles

I have been procrastinating a bit on finishing Heidi’s monster. The feet need finishing work and stuffing before I can finish the legs. I’ve been working so much lately, and the light at work just isn’t conducive to fine work. I’m off tonight, and don’t have plans for the first time in ages, so I should have them done in time for my FO Friday post.

Instead, I got started on the Milo I mentioned last week. I have a mailing deadline coming up next week, so it needs to get done.

I’m also still working on hats for CLICK for Babies. That’s the purple thing in my photo.

So, what are you working on these days? Let me know in the comments. I’ll see you over at the Yarn Along.

Have a great Wednesday!

WIP Wednesday: Back To School

Image

Happy Wednesday! Today’s the day the kids in my area go back to school after Summer Break. For many parents around here, this is indeed a very happy Wednesday. 😉 For me it means my friends are a little more available during the day, and that my two months of easy parking around my apartment are over as the high schoolers take all the spots. C’est la vie.

The Hook

I didn’t get much crocheting done this week as I was in a mad dash to get the monsters completed for my niece and nephew’s birthday party on Monday. However, in light of the “back to school theme,” I decided to try a new-to-me granny square.

Ta da!

The Book

Ah, Hogwarts. How I’ve missed your enchanted halls! Your stately spires! Your creepy three-headed dogs in locked corridors! Well, maybe not that last one. So good to be on the train back to school!

The Needles

As usual, the bulk of my time has been spent on knitting or finishing work. I needed to get Hugo and Bea finished for Jonah and Carly before their birthday party on Monday. They were done with time to spare!

Jonah and Carly love them! I’ll give Hugo and Bea their own post on Friday.

Incidentally, Jonah is going back to school today. He started the First Grade!

Unfortunately, I was also trying to get a monster done for their mom, Heidi, and was not successful.

I did manage to get the body done and one arm attached. The plan was to attach the second arm once I arrived at the house and finish the legs during the party. That went out the window when I realized that I’d left the other arm at home. Doh! So, Heidi got this:

Along with the promise that I would finish her monster and deliver it very soon.

So, that’s what I’m currently working on. Heidi’s monster is an amalgamation of three monsters from The Big Book of Knitted Monsters: Harold (body and extremities), Gort (stripes), and Dot (ears). I have one foot done, and one very nearly done.PhotoEditor-1441826641245

The feet are the most fiddly part. The legs will be relatively straightforward.

After I’m done with Harold/Gort/Dot, I need to start working on a Milo for an upcoming baby shower.

And that’s all the news that’s for to print. 😉 What’s your news? Let me know in the comments.

See you at the Yarn Along!
