Compassion Tuesday: Spotlight on Aldo

Image

Today, I’ll be continuing my introductions of my sponsor children who are new to me this year.

Meet Aldo.

PhotoEditor-1445336691169 Aldo is six years old and lives near Medan on the island of a Sumatra in Indonesia. Aldo is my third sponsor child from Indonesia.

When Rio graduated from Compassion’s program, I began sponsoring a little boy named Marchellino. This spring, he and his family moved away from the area where Compassion serves. Compassion contacted me and offered to transfer my sponsorship to a new little boy. Of course, I agreed without question. Aldo and Marchellino live (or lived) in the same city.

I’ve only been sponsoring Aldo since June, so we haven’t had much time to connect. I know he lives with his aunt and mom and that he has a brother. He likes soccer and music, and his favorite color is yellow. So far, I’ve received two letters from him.

I love what he says about wanting to take a walk together. I would love to do that with all of my kids!

Aldo recently had a birthday. Rather than sending a card, I used a fun paper and stickers to make him one. The blank space at the bottom is for translation.

I’m looking forward to getting to know Aldo better.

As I type this, there are 228 children in Indonesia listed on Compassion’s website who are waiting for sponsors. Would you consider ending the wait for one of them. Who knows, were could end up sponsoring buddies.

Compassion Tuesday: Spotlight On Gabriela

Image

In the next few Compassion Tuesday posts, I will be introducing you to my newer sponsor children. Of my six kids, four are new to me this year. Today, I’d like to introduce you to Gabriela.

PhotoEditor-1444723482993

Gabriela is 9 years old and lives near the city of Oruro, Bolivia. She is actually my third child from Bolivia, and my second named Gabriela. Weird, huh? I guess that must be a popular name. I only sponsored my first Gabriela for a few months before she moved out of the area where Compassion serves.

When my first sponsor child left the program, Compassion sent me a girl named Erika. I sponsored Erika for several years until she graduated from Compassion’s program at the age of 15 late last year. When Erika graduated, Compassion sent me information on my current Gabriela.

I’ve only been sponsoring Gabriela since January of this year, but we have already gotten to know each other. When she writes me, it feels much more like a conversation than a letter. She has answered my questions and asked a few of her own. I feel as though I’ve gotten to know her more in the past 10 months than I have some of my other kids in years of writing. I’m not sure if it’s her age or just her personality, but I love it!

She is also a pretty good artist. She told me drawing is one of her favorite activities.

I recently received a new photo of Gabriela.

Do you recognize the shield on her jacket? Gabriela attends a project run by a Salvation Army church. 🙂

I’m looking forward, and hoping for, many more years of sponsoring Gabriela.

There are currently 129 children in Bolivia on Compassion’s website who are waiting for sponsors. Would you consider getting to know your own “Gabriela.”

Compassion Tuesday: Spotlight on Theleza

Image

While it is now the wee hours of Wednesday, I don’t want to skip my Compassion Tuesday post for this week. Tonight I’d like to introduce you to Theleza.

Theleza is 8 years old and lives near Lake Victoria in Tanzania. She is my second sponsor child from that country.

My first sponsor child from Tanzania was a girl named Pascalina. I sponsored her for about 12 years until she left the Compassion program around the age of 17.

I’ll give Pascalina her own post at a later time.

When Pascalina left the program, Compassion sent me info on another little girl in Tanzania who needed a sponsor.

Just like with Sakthi, I had already made up my mind to sponsor whichever child Compassion sent me, and so my relationship with Theleza began in January 2013.

Theleza lives with her Grandma. She has one sibling, but I cannot remember if he or she is older or younger. Part of the reason is that Theleza’s letters are not very informative at this stage.

Due to her age, Theleza’s letters are in a “fill in the blank” format. She usually draws me a picture, but doesn’t typically write anything beyond one or two word answers to the questions on the letter form.

To be honest, it’s a little frustrating because I do really want to get to know her better. That will come with time, I’m sure. I did get some great info from Compassion on the region where Theleza lives. That helps me imagine her life a little better.

I’m looking forward to many more years as her sponsor.

Compassion began its work in Tanzania in July 1999. There are currently more than 72,100 children in Compassion’s program in over 305 projects. I just checked, and there are 59 children from Tanzania currently listed on Compassion’s website who are awaiting sponsors. Would you consider ending the wait for one of them?
