WIP Wednesday: Off To The Races

How many of you watched the Belmont Stakes on Saturday to see American Pharoah’s historic run? I admit, I’m not really into horse racing, but even I was excited to watch. I woke from a nap on the couch just in time to catch the last race. First Triple Crown winner in 37 years! That was exciting. This post, I’m afraid, will be much less exciting. In fact, I could probably just use the photos I took for my nonexistent post last week for all the progress I’ve made.

The Hook

Zip. Zilch. Nada.

I’m wondering if this afghan is ever going to get done! Maybe I need some elf help like the cobbler got. 😉

I think I’m finally going to dive into Dreaming Spies! I’ve been so looking forward to this new chapter in Mary Russell’s story! Unfortunately, the book was released right before Lent, and I had Lenten reading on my plate.  Then, of course, I’ve been reading Embracing The Body, my friend Tara’s book (which I’m going to keep right on plugging!), so there hasn’t been much time for any other reading.  I’m looking forward to diving into a good yarn.

Speaking of yarn…

I just got the sleeves of my sweater onto scrap yarn, so I’m off to the races on that. From here on it’s just repeating the 4-row lace pattern until the hem. Having never knit this lace pattern, as easy as it is, I was making mistakes. So, I took a brief break from my sweater and knit this hat using the same lace repeats.

That was really helpful! I now know what the lace is supposed to look like after several rounds, and I’ve got a cute hat for CLICK for Babies. I’ve got my fifth hat for them on the needles right now.

I also knit another hat over the weekend for a friend’s little one.

I’ll put the details in another post.

Speaking of posts, that about does it for this one. I’ll link up with the Yarn Along as usual. Have a great Wednesday, and, if you’re in my area, stay cool out there!

TBT: WIP Wednesday

See what I did there? Ha. I wasn’t able to get photos on Tuesday, which meant that I couldn’t post from work Tuesday night. Yesterday was really busy, and I wasn’t home much at all. I got photos taken, but wasn’t able to write. And last night I inadvertently left my tablet at home which meant that I couldn’t post from work last night either. In the past, I would have just bagged it altogether. Today, though, I’m holding to the “better late lthan never” adage. I’ll link up with the Yarn Along as well.

The Hook

No surprise here, but there has been no crocheting going on in my place, unless using a crochet hook to fix knitting mistakes counts. 😉 I’m missing it a little, though.

The Book

My friend Tara is on a virtual book tour this week to promote Embracing The Body. She is visiting several blogs and websites. There is a great excerpt from her book on her own blog at Anam Cara. She has a guest post on Abbey of the Arts’ blog. And there is a wonderful interview with Tara done by Emily McFarlan Miller on her blog. I’m hoping to interview her here as well.

The Needles

I finished the little Milo that I was knitting last week for Milo May. I also finally got the finishing touches on the little sweater I was knitting.

They’ll get their own post once they reach their destinations.

I’ve made good progress on my sweater. In fact, I joined the second of five balls of yarn this morning. I had to transfer it onto my interchangeable needles. They’re wood instead of metal, so I hope they won’t meas up my gauge. During the transfer, I sort of tried on the sweater (meaning I laid it across my shoulders), and it appears to be a good fit.

I also cast on a new hat for CLICK for Babies. This one is knit in a soft DK. I’m hoping to get one hat done each week until the campaign ends in October.

That about does it for me. Hope you all have a great Thursday! Oh! Since it’s TBT, how about a picture for the occasion. This is me and my parents in 1974. Enjoy!

WIP Wednesday: One Less Rabbit

Happy Wednesday to you! I have to admit to being a little pleased with myself for managing to post here three weeks in a row. It takes a bit of forethought, which isn’t exactly my forte. On with the show (and tell)!

The Hook

Once again, knitting projects have consumed my crafting time, so no progress has been made on my afghan. I really should be getting a couple of squares done each week if I have any hope of using it next winter. How some crocheters can knock out an afghan in a weekweek — in DK yarn no less! — is beyond my comprehension.

I have to admit that I’ve been eyeballing all the fun colors in my stash and have been getting the itch to start another afghan. Maybe a smaller one? I mean, just look a those!

That reminds me. I don’t think I ever said what I did with those flowers. I need to get a better picture of the garland before I show it off.

The Book

I made it through the chapter in Embracing The Body that I mentioned last week. I really had nothing to be frightened of. Tara is a beautiful guide. However, the subject of sexuality/sensuality (which, btw, are two different things) tends to be a “hot button” issue, with me at times, and with the Church at large. So much so, that I immediately seem to balk when the subject comes up…which, of course, in a book about embracing our bodies, it is bound to do. Tara handles it beautifully and makes some great points that I’ll be taking with me long after I turn the last dog-eared page. I’ll let you discover them for yourselves, though. Seriously. Get this book!

As you can see, I’ve made tremendous progress on my Milo! I am loving that cable! I chose the bigger twist over the other cables in the pattern because 1) I thought it would be more visible on that dark blue yarn,  and 2) I’m actually pretty phobic about cables and will usually avoid them like the plague. With only one cross every 8 rows, I though it was doable.

IMG_20150519_115728_253~2

I got started on my February Lady Sweater. It’s just rows of garter stitch at this point, so it’s pretty mindless. After looking at pages and pages of project photos, though, I’m starting to get a little nervous that it’s going to wind up being a very unflattering mass on me. The yarn I’m using is 80% cotton and 20% merino, which I’m afraid might stretch out badly while being worn. I shall just keep plugging along at this point, though, and we shall see.

I did manage to get one project done done this week (one less rabbit), my purple baby hat for CLICK for Babies. I made it with worsted yarn because that’s what I had, but I prefer DK or lighter for infants. I’ll pick up some DK this week. The pattern can be found here. It’s really easy to modify and has become my go-to baby hat. I tweek it by adding the twisted stitches every 4th row. This hat is also 48 stitches vs 68 and knit on US-7s due to the thicker yarn.

IMG_20150519_115924_296~2

That about does it for me. As usual, I’ll be linking up with the Yarn Along over at Small Things.

Have a great Wednesday!
